New destinations highlight passenger flight growth at RFD

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ----- The Chicago Rockford International Airport's roster will grow, with two new nonstop destinations added in less than a year - Sarasota and Destin, Florida.

"From the time they pull into the parking lot to the time they get into the jet bridge, we want this to be a hassle-free experience for them," said terminal manager Pam Guentert.

From Punta Cana to Las Vegas, the Chicago Rockford International Airport works hard to expand its footprint. Its latest step is to reach two more destinations for passengers to enjoy.

"We want to be open for business here, we want to work with airlines, both cargo and passenger, to make it a good experience for them and to make it a smart move to have them operate out of Rockford," said RFD CEO Mike Dunn.

After the addition of Destin, Florida earlier this year, and now introducing flights to Sarasota, Florida to their destinations, airport officials say more cities could be on the way very soon.

"We have a lot of people still today who'll come in and say, we didn't even know there was an airport here. So, that's exciting for us because then we get the chance to make that first impression," said Guentert.

RFD ranks as one of the country's busiest cargo airports, but Dunn says he and his team are just as dedicated to commercial flights.

"A lot has been said about cargo over the last year or so, but now, we're starting to see recognition on the passenger side too and that's really important,” said Dunn.
