ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A new Rockford group named "100 Men Who Give a Damn" looks to help the Family Peace Center move forward.

Rockford mayor Tom McNamara introduced the group leaders Thursday. Their goal is to bring together busy men in the community to make a difference without having to sacrifice a huge time commitment.

The group plans on meeting four times a year to generate money in order to build the Family Peace Center, a venue that will offer support and resources for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

"We understood that with a Family Peace Center, although its a proven method, it also costs money," said McNamara. "We also knew that domestic violence impacts everyone in our city, but we didn't know people would react and be willing to step up."

The goal of the group is to raise $40,000 every year. The next event will be a golf outing at Mauh Nah Tee See Country Club on September 9.
