ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Area fire departments will help locals battle the severe cold this week by opening a 24-hour warming center.
New Milford Fire Protection District crews will open up the training room for people needing shelter or adequate heat. Doors will open 2 p.m. Monday and stay open through 8 a.m. Friday.
Fire officials say restrooms, water and coffee will be available while the warming center remains open. The warming center is located at 2177 Will James Rd in Rockford.

Harlem Roscoe Fire Protection District will be opening their Station 1, located at 10544 Main Street as a temporary warming center.
It will be open until 6 p.m. Thursday.
Residents are asked to enter through the front door off of Main Street.
