ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A new law expands school bus services for students who may have previously walked through areas of criminal activity in Illinois.
The law offers compensation for schools to transport students who may not normally take the bus and pass through an area with patterns of gang activity.
While the law took effect on Nov. 30, 2018, the Illinois State Board of Education has taken additional steps to carry it out.
ISBE released a template for parents to request their school district to review certain routes and determine whether a serious safety hazard exists from gang activity.
