ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The National Alliance of Mental illness kicked off mental illness awareness week with the first event of the week they're calling "in your own voice" taking place at the Rock River branch library. Two people who suffer from mental illness shared their stories, with a message about what it's like to have a mental health condition.

“We're incredibly thankful and grateful for the awesome supportive community that we have and we hope that we can give back a little bit, give some support to these people and let them know that there's hope and that people can live and be successful living with mental illness." said Chad Brooks, from the National alliance on mental illness.
