ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- In celebration of Black History Month, a local museum hosted a free event today to showcase some local works of art.
The African American gallery at the Ethnic Heritage Museum featured a special exhibit highlighting the work of five local artists. The museum hosts different cultural exhibits and says this is a great way for the community to explore the differences and learn about each others' cultures.
"A lot of people don't realize how much talent we do have here in Rockford. So this is a great opportunity to for them to see what some of the local artists are doing and then also for the artists to mingle and discuss their work with people who are really interested in art," said David Ruffin, a member of the board of directors at the museum.
Four of the five local artists were at the exhibit today to answer questions and talk about their art.
