UPDATE: Ogle County woman dies from injuries in 4th of July crash

UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Mount Morris woman died Friday from injuries she received in a motorcycle crash on the 4th of July in Carroll County.

Peggy Janssen, 59, was pronounced dead following a brain hemorrhage at a Rockford hospital. She was the passenger on a motorcycle that was hit by a car in the intersection of Illinois Route 72 and Shannon Road. The motorcycle driver, Gordon Vaughn of Mount Morris, was taken by helicopter to Mercyhealth in Rockford. His condition is unknown.

Police gave a citation to the driver of the car for failing to yield at a stop intersection. She was not hurt in the crash.


SHANNON, Ill. (WIFR) -- A motorcycle and a car collide Wednesday morning in Shannon sending two people to the hospital; one of the victims was transported by helicopter.

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. at Illinois Route 72 and Shannon Road. Police say a car traveling south on Shannon Road stopped at a stop sign then pulled into the intersection - right into the path of a motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, Gordon Vaughn, 58, of Mount Morris, was airlifted to Mercyhealth in Rockford. His passenger, Peggy Janssen, 59, of Mount Morris, went to Mercyhealth by ambulance. Their conditions aren't known.

Mackenzie Wagner, 25, of Freeport, was driving the car and wasn't hurt. She was given a citation for failure to yield at a stop intersection.
