DAVIS JUNCTION, Ill. (WIFR) -- The Ogle County Coroner releases a cause of death for the West Lafayette, IN woman found dead in her car near the Orchard Hills Landfill.
The Ogle County Sheriff's Office says the death of 80-year-old Sumire Negishi was not foul play. The coroner ruled her death an accident caused by exposure and hypothermia.
The family of Sumire and her husband, 82-year-old Ei-Ichi Negishi say the couple was travelling to Rockford. They were reported missing on March 12, 2018 from West Lafayette.
Ei-ichi Negishi, a professor at Purdue University and a Nobel Prize winner, was found walking near the 8200 block of North Route 251 in Davis Junction.
The family says Sumire was near the end of a battle with Parkinson's Disease.
DAVIS JUNCTION, Ill. (WIFR) -- A West Lafayette, Indiana woman reported missing on Monday evening has been found dead.
At 5 a.m. Tuesday, Ogle County Sheriff’s Deputies went to the 8200 block of N. Route 251 in Davis Junction to check on an elderly man walking in the area.
They found 82-year-old Eiichi Negishi, of West Lafayette, and he was taken to a Rockford hospital.
Investigators later found the couple's vehicle in the nearby Orchard Hills Landfill along with Eiichi's wife, 80-year-old Sumire Negishi, who was pronounced dead by Ogle County coroner.
Investigators say the couple and their vehicle were reported missing to the Indiana State Police at 8 p.m. on Monday.
Eiichi is being treated at a Rockford hospital. Foul play is not suspected.
