Miss Illinois visits Rockford schools, advocates for the arts

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Miss Illinois was on a mission to advocate for the arts on Tuesday.

Ariel Beverly returned to familiar roots today while visiting Haskell Elementary School. She adorns a crown, but is also an arts teacher downstate.

Beverly stopped by a few schools in the Rockford area to engage with students on the importance of art and self-expression. She advocates for keeping a steady flow of funds for art programs within schools.

"It's not just about creating that future professional musician or artist," says Beverly. "It's about all the skills and life lessons that can come from being involved in the arts, like time management, creative problem solving, just pride in their own work or ideas."
