MercyHealth introduces half-billion-dollar Javon Bea Hospital

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- MercyHealth introduced its new $505 million facility Wednesday afternoon.

The Javon Bea Hospital and Physician Clinic-Riverside will open next month at 8201 E. Riverside Blvd.

MercyHealth leaders looked ahead Wednesday with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony along with elected officials, physicians and employees.

The 530-thousand square-foot campus consists of 194 private in-patient rooms and a 52-bed, level-three neonatal intensive care unit. for the hospital to welcome patients next month.

Hospital leaders say they hope to wanted to welcome patients with state-of-the-art technology, particularly in its women and children's unit. The hospital hopes to provide a welcoming calming and fun environment for all patients.

CEO Javon Bea says this hospital is also a huge economic catalyst for Rockford.

"A facility like this that serves people's bodies, minds and souls, it's a source of healing and comfort," Bea said. "You'll just find a number of businesses and people wanting to build around the facility."

The hospital offers a public open house Saturday from 9-4 p.m.
