ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - With fall just around the corner, one local health system held car seat checks for families in Rockford.
In honor of National Child Passenger Safety Week, certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians spent the day ensuring all visitors follow the newest changes to the Illinois Child Passenger Protection Act.
All children under the age of two must ride in a rear-facing seat and making sure that the weather hasn't damaged existing seats.
“That's because, especially here in the Midwest, our changing temperatures, we go from hot to cold to hot to cold and that does tend to break down the plastic and the sturdiness of that seat,” said Colette Rossi-Luebke, MercyHealth.
Saturday’s event at MercyHealth’s Alpine campus is one of over 90 across the state-sponsored by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
