Memorial service honors homicide victims

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill (WIFR) -- "The victim doesn't survive, but the families do," says victim advocate Jody Miller. "The families want everyone to know they remember their loved ones even though they are not here."

Memorial Service for homicide victims and survivors

The 15th annual Carol McFeggan Homicide Victims Memorial Service took place at Riverside Community Church. Carol McFeggan died at the hands of her husband in June, 2009.

She was a receptionist at Auburn High School, and started a support group for families that lost loved ones to violent crimes. Her late brother was killed a few years prior to her death.

Those attending the event were friends and family members of people in the Rockford-area that lost their lives to violence. Some have answers, and search for peace. Others have hurt, and search for answers.

Victim names were called, and families lit a candle in remembrance. They also brought pictures to display. Instead of a balloon release, eveyone received a Forget Me Not flower in memory of their loved ones.
