Rockford man tried to purchase drugs when shot, arrested on outstanding warrants

A Rockford man has recovered after being shot in the arm over the weekend, but he was arrested on outstanding warrants after treatment.

Police say Joshua Whittie, 18, was attempting to purchase drugs in the 3300 block of Searles Avenue when a suspect shot him and ran away with his money.

Officers say Whittie was able to drive himself to the hospital Friday evening.

Whittie faces charges of unlawful possession of a handgun, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of cannabis related to the warrants. He was taken to Winnebago County Jail.

Whittie is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.

A man is recovering after he was shot in his left arm Friday evening.

Investigators say they were called to Mercyhealth Hospital on North Rockton Avenue for a walk-in shooting victim around 5:30 p.m.

That's when they met with a 18-year-old shooting victim.

Police say the victim wouldn't tell them where or why the shooting happened.

That victim was treated and has since been released from the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
