BOONE COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Rockford man was sentenced to 6 years in prison for leading Belvidere police on a lengthy chase after officers tried to pull him over for running a red light.

Leonard Jones, 54, was convicted last week on two counts of aggravated fleeing or attempt to allude a police officer.

Belvidere police say they tried to pull Jones over on May 15, 2019 around 4 a.m. A patrol officer spotted his car after authorities in Rockford and Winnebago County reported he took off from police earlier that morning.

Jones led officers on an hour and a half chase after running a red light on Logan Avenue. Police say the chase was over when he ended up stuck in a ditch.

Jones' sentence will be followed by at least one year of parole.
