Man freed of murder charges from 2015 stabbing in Rockford Walmart parking lot

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A homeless man, accused of stabbing a Machesney Park man in a Walmart parking lot in 2015, was acquitted of murder charges on Thursday.

Steven Pritchett, 60, was found not guilty for the death of the death of Harland Dascher Jr., 72, on June 12, 2015.

Authorities say Dascher was stabbed around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of the Walmart at 3849 Northridge Dr. Police conducted a welfare check in the area and found him suffering from a stab wound.

Dascher was taken to a local hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Pritchett was arrested was arrested three days after the stabbing on unrelated charges. In September 2016, Pritchett was charged on four counts of first-degree murder.

Pritchett will remain in the Winnebago County Jail on $500,000 bond on another case. A bond hearing is set for Sept. 20.
