Man faces 17 counts of first-degree murder for 2018 Rockford shooting
A man charged with murder and home invasion for a fatal shooting in Rockford last year faces 17 counts of first-degree murder, according to the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office.
A grand jury returned an indictment for Shawnquiz Lee, 29, on Thursday.
Authorities say two armed men invaded a home on Feb. 23, 2018 in the 400 block of South Henrietta.
A female witness on the scene alleges that the suspects entered her residence demanding money and valuables from her and her boyfriend, Julian Young. Authorities say Young was fatally shot in the basement of the home.
If convicted, Lee faces up to 60 years in prison, followed by three years of mandatory supervised release.
Lee is scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 17. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
