Man arrested after police chase, handgun recovered at scene

ROCKFORD, Ill., (WIFR) -- Rockford police arrest a man after a brief chase.
On August 27, 2017, around 8:00pm, Rockford Police SCOPE officers were on patrol when they spotted a vehicle traveling with its head lights off in the area of Jefferson Street and Underwood Street.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled. The driver eventually crashed into a park pavilion at South Winnebago Street and Montague Street and attempted to flee on foot.
After a brief foot chase, the driver was apprehended and identified as 30-year-old Des Plaines resident, Abe Brown.
The police officers later learned that Brown was on parole and had a revoked driver's license. They also recovered a handgun from the scene.
A 57-year-old male passenger was also inside the vehicle.
The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office authorized the following charges on Brown:
Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon
No FOID
Resisting
Aggrevated Fleeing to Elude
Driving while License Revoked
Hit and Run
No Insurance
Driving Without Headlights When Required
Brown was released from the hospital and transported to Winnebago County Jail. The passenger was released from the hospital but was not charged at this time.
The investigation is still on-going.
