Man accused of hit and run in Freeport, drove with revoked license

A man was arrested for a hit-and-run crash Friday in the Freeport area and allegedly drove with a revoked license.

Stanley Ward, 50, of Ridott, Illinois, faces felony charges after the crash.

Freeport police say the crash happened around 7 p.m. in the 400 block of West Main Street. A white SUV was traveling eastbound when it reportedly hit a black Saturn SUV that was legally parked along the side.

Officers found a vehicle part at the scene of the crash that had the suspect vehicle's VIN stamped on it.

Police determined the suspect vehicle belonged to Ward and found the car in the 100 block of N. Dakota Road in Ridott. Ward later turned himself in to officers.

Ward’s license had been suspended for a DUI in 2003, according to police. He being held at the Stephenson County Jail on a $3,000 (10%) bond.
