Machesney Park man charged for child sexual abuse, failing to register as a sex offender

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Machesney Park man was arrested Monday for allegedly sexually abusing a child and failing to register as a sex offender.

John Stedman, 33, was charged with criminal sexual abuse of a child under 13 and failure to register as a sex offender.

According to court records, Stedman allegedly molested an underage girl on multiple occasions between November 2018 and May 2019. It reportedly happened at a home in Machesney Park and Rockford.

Police say he was previously convicted for failing to register as a sex offender in 2014.

Stedman was also charged with aggravated fleeing police, driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, failure to notify of damage to an unattended vehicle, and possession of cannabis.

Stedman is being held at the Winnebago County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
