LOVES PARK, Ill. (WIFR) -- For the first time in 40 years, the "Young at Heart" festival will not take place over Memorial Day weekend.

However, Loves Park is making sure there are plenty of events for families to celebrate.

The city will still be hosting its "Young at Heart" parade and fireworks show on Saturday. The parade will kick off at 9 a.m. at Woodward. It will head north on Second Street, and end at Theodore street.

The fireworks display will begin at dusk just south of Sand Park Pool.

"We wanted to make sure that residents had something to do this Memorial Day weekend," said Loves Park mayor Greg Jury. "We get a lot of support from the businesses both involved in the parade and financially involved in the fireworks."

The Parks Chamber of Commerce chose to cancel the event this year due to the construction going on near Sand Park Pool.
