Loves Park Police closing in on K9 fundraising goal

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WIFR) - It's all paws on deck for the Loves Park Police Department, as it gets closer to its fundraising goal to add another dog to its K9 unit.
Mayor Greg Jury and State Representative John Cabello were behind the bar at Jax Pub for the department's guest bartending event. This is the third fundraiser for the department. It's goal is to raise $50,000 to bring on a second dog to its force. That would mean a k9 will be patrolling the village 24-7. Officers hope to get the dog this summer and begin training by the fall.

“We're very close to getting there right now,” said Loves Park Mayor Greg Jury. “We think that we're going to be able to go over that goal with the other fundraisers that we're having throughout the month of February. So our officers are very happy with the way the community has supported them.”
