ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- In an effort to revitilize neighborhoods around Rockford, community members gathered Friday to discuss assets and attractions for drawing more people to the city.
The Great Neighborhoods Initiative, as part of Transform Rockford, is working on new ways to better brand and market local neighborhoods.
Organizers from the Rockford Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Council wanted to locals together to encourage them to be better advocates for their neighborhoods.
Team leader Gary Anderson says the goal is to only attract talent, but also retain it.
"We have a great deal of strength in our neighborhoods, and I think for too long we've discounted them or taken them for granted," Anderson said. "It's high time that we really bring and elevate our neighborhoods to another level. We want to make our community more attractive to live, work and play."
The Great Neighborhoods initiative is intended to support residential choices that promote economic strength and interconnected neighborhoods.
