Rockford, Ill (WIFR) -- A senior at Harlem high school got to put on her cap and gown a bit earlier than most of her classmates after the school decided to throw her, her very own graduation ceremony.
Izabella Sotelo was diagnosed with stage three liver failure and told by physicians she wouldn't make it to her classes’ graduation this spring. But today she walked across the stage and received her diploma, checking off one of the biggest wishes on her bucket list.
"I feel great, it's an achievement I've always wanted to work for,” said graduate Izabella Sotelo, “a 3.8 GPA was just very through hard work. Even though I struggled with my mental stuff, my medical stuff, I still really pushed through it and didn't want an excuse."
Izzy also is attending her very own prom this next week thanks to a group of her teachers, Mercyhealth, and local community partners pulling together to give her, her final wish.
