Two groups donate $10,000 each to Rockford's Family Peace Center
Two local organizations are doing their part to bring the Family Peace Center to life.
The Rockford Area Realtors Young Professionals Network and Next Rockford have both been busy at work, hosting fundraisers to help with the creation of the Family Peace Center.
On Wednesday, both groups handed over $10,000 checks to Mayor Tom McNamara.
Both organizations say they are plan on donating even more in the future to help the center grow.
"When Next Rockford members learn more about the Family Peace Center Initiative, we felt compelled to act," says Maryjo Pirajes Reynolds, a Next Rockford member. "We want to stand with survivors of domestic violence and do everything we can to eradicate domestic violence from our community."
The Family Peace Center will offer resources for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Project leaders expect it will open by summer 2020.
