Local organization offering Christmas tree recycling

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Christmas may be over, but you can still put your Christmas tree to good use.

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful is offering Christmas tree recycling services until January 15th.

Organizers say that recycling real Christmas trees conserves landfill space and helps return nutrients to the earth.

Anyone interested in recycling their trees should remember to remove all ornaments and the stand from your trees before leaving it at the site.

Trees can be donated at the following locations:

Rockford --

1. Don Schmid Youth Sports Center at Riverdahl Park - 871 Sandy Hollow Road parking lot

2. Levings Lake - 1420 S. Pierpont Ave. east entrance South Johnston Ave at Montage

3. Andrews Park - 800 North Central Ave.

4. Gambino Park - 4421 Pepper Drive west of North Alpine

5. Alpine Park - 950 South Alpine Road

Loves Park --

6. Martin Park - 5600 Park Ridge Road, south of Riverside; northeast parking lot

Machesney Park --

7. Machesney Town Center -- 8702 North 2nd St. southwest corner mall parking lot

Cherry Valley --

8. Baumann Park - South Walnut Street, daylight hours only

Rockton --

9. Williams Tree Farm - 4661 Yale Bridge Road

10. Rockton Boat Ramp parking area - About 830 E Main St., opposite ball field

Roscoe --

11. Valley View Farms - 6440 Belvidere Road

Pecatonica --

12. Pecatonica Wetlands Forest Preserve - 4550 North Pecatonica Road

Belvidere, Boone County --
