Local organization celebrates Illinois' Bicentennial

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- On this day, 200 years ago Illinois became the 21st state in the union. Celebrations were held all over the state and many students took part in the festivities right here in the stateline.

The Rockford Area Roman Catholic Home Educators brought its students together Monday for a special birthday party. Mr. And Mrs. Lincoln even paid a visit to honor Illinois’ birthday. The students wrote stories and poems about the state and even had a chance to draw cardinals, the state bird. And it wouldn't be a party without singing happy birthday and digging in to a birthday cake to celebrate 200 years.
