ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Several local legislators and officials are remembering former President George H.W. Bush and his impact on our country. Some say he's an inspiration to those working in public service on both sides of the aisle.
“I met president when he was campaigning for the job back in 1988 and what struck me was how kind he was and he really represented an era where politics were kinder and gentler. There aren't many resumes and legacies like his around these days. It's truly extraordinary,” said State Senator Steve Stadelman.
I have great memories of President Bush and obviously with the legacy of their family, it's a huge loss for our country. When I look back at how those leaders carried themselves, how they conducted business, it certainly has had an impact,” said Winnebago County Board Chairman Frank Haney.
