ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ---- With more than a century here in Rockford, JROTC gets the royal treatment with Auburn High School's Military Ball.

Designated with one of the nation's first pilot programs, Auburn's JROTC is stacked, with a lettered rifle team, active drum line and a sabre guard. This year's event celebrates the 102nd of their mission, to motivate young people to be better citizens. Keynote speaker Sergeant Major William J. Gainey says the work the students did for tonight's event is impressive.

"This is the first one I've been to in the last 20, and I'm not exaggerating, that the cadets did everything. These young men and women, they organize it, they planned it and they did it," said Gainey.

The cadets also participate in veterans services projects throughout Winnebago County.
