WINNEBAGO, Ill (WIFR) --- Year to year on Memorial day weekend, the community comes out to the North Burritt Union cemetery to remember family members, friends and loved ones.
For more than 140 years, volunteers and community members hold a service for the soldiers buried in the cemetery.
"They are here, there souls are here in the cemetery and it seems just so much better to be out In the open," says attendee Daniel Wojtas.
Richard McCray has been part of the planning since 1995, and wants everyone to remember that Memorial day is two fold.
"You can have a good time, but remember what this day is about.. Remember that it's about the veterans that have paid the ultimate price," says McCray.
