ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Local businesses step up to help out the Northwest Community Center in a time of need.

Nine local business donated money, labor and materials to help the community center upgrade its kitchen stove.

The efforts come after an inspector from the Rockford Fire Department recently noticed a safety issue with the stove. The inspector saw the stove hood installed could result in a fire if left in its previous condition.

The community center was left with two options; to purchase and install the correct hood in a five-figure project, or remove the stove.

Since the center couldn't afford the price tag of the repair, they rallied behind the community support.

The supporting businesses include:
-Rockford Heating
-National Metal Works
-Total Plumbing & Heating
-Wilson Electric
-Electrical Union
-Getz Fire
-Tim Bunk
