List of colleges and universities in the Midwest altering daily operations from COVID-19

Universities all across the country have closed campus classrooms as the novel coronavirus has affected more than 100,000 people worldwide and its spread has transformed into a pandemic. Here is a list of major colleges and universities in the Midwest that have taken action, monitoring, and/or canceling or temporarily suspending in-classroom instruction.

NOTE: This list will be updated continuously.

Illinois:

: The school will extend spring break (which started Monday) until March 22nd. Modified courses will run from March 23rd - April 4th. The hope is to have students return to class April 6.

: Extending its spring until Monday, March 23. Then will transition from face-to-face to online instruction and/or other instructional modalities through at least April 12. University-operated housing is currently closed. ISU students should remain at their permanent home residences until further notice

: Extend spring break for students by one week and resume classes through virtual teaching on Monday, March 23, 2020.

: Courses at each of the three universities (Champaign, Springfield, Chicago) will immediately begin migrating to online or alternative delivery mechanisms that helps limit transmission of the virus, with a goal of completion by March 23. Online and other alternative learning methods will continue until further notice, but the expectation is that it will be temporary

: All university-sponsored events, either on or off campus, are postponed or canceled now until further notice. Whenever possible, classes will be delivered remotely during Spring Quarter and the remainder of Spring Semester for the College of Law.

: SIU Carbondale will be extending spring break for students through March 22. Effective Monday, March 23, classes will be offered in online or other alternative formats until further notice.

: Spring break is extended one week. When classes resume April 4, they will be conducted remotely for at least three weeks.

Indiana:

: All classes canceled from March 16 through 20 and all in-person classes suspended through at least April 13

: All in-person classes suspended from March 23 through April 6

: All in-person classes suspended until further notice

: Suspended all in-person classes for the duration of the Spring semester. In-person classes will be replaced with virtual instruction and other alternative learning options. Suspended University-sponsored and University-funded events between March 16 and April 30.

: Extend Spring Break through Wednesday, March 18 for students (no classes) and all classes will be conducted through virtual instruction from Thursday, March 19 through at least Saturday, April 4.

Wisconsin:

: All in-person classes suspended from March 23 through at least April 10 with limited exceptions

: Spring break extended by one week to prepare for moving classes online

: Extending spring break through the week of March 16 - 22. Classes will resume online or otherwise remotely on March 23 and students will be expected to remain away from campus and participate in class remotely between March 23-27.

: The College will be suspending classes on Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17.

: Extending spring break for students through Friday, March 20. They plan to resume in-person classes on Monday, March 23.

Lake Forrest College: Extending spring break for students till March 17.

Iowa:

: All in-person classes suspended from March 23 through at least April 3

: All in-person classes suspended from March 23 through at least April 3

: all on-campus courses will switch over to exclusive online instruction beginning Monday, March 23 through at least Friday, April 3.

: Drake University will deliver all courses remotely from March 23—April 3, 2020

Michigan:

: All Michigan State University face-to-face classes are moved to online until April 20.

: All U-M classes are canceled March 12-13. Classes will resume Monday in alternative formats – not meeting in person through April 21, the last day of classes this semester.

: all CMU classes will move online after spring break through March 20.

: Western Michigan University will begin delivering instruction through distance education on Monday, March 16, through Friday, April 3, effective for all locations.

: Effective Thursday, March 12 on-campus classes are canceled. Will transition to online classes on March 16. The suspension of on campus/in person classes will last through Tuesday, March 31 -- with on campus/in person classes tentatively set to resume on April 1.

Ohio:

: Ohio State will suspend face-to-face instruction in lectures, discussion sections, seminars and other similar classroom settings and move to virtual instruction, effective immediately and through at least Monday, March 30.

: Ohio University has suspended in-person instruction on all campuses and locations and is moving to a virtual instruction environment, effective immediately and through at least Monday, March 30, 2020.

: Kent State ceased face-to-face classes through April 12. Remote instruction will begin March 16.

: Classes have been canceled Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17. All academic courses will resume Wednesday, March 18 with remote delivery.

: Beginning March 11, 2020, Miami University’s U.S. campuses are suspending all face-to-face instruction in lectures, discussion sections, seminars and other similar classroom settings. Courses will be delivered by remote instruction through at least April 12, 2020.

: All in-person classes suspended until at least April 6, dorms closing at 6 PM on March 11

: All in-person classes suspended, online instruction to begin March 23 and continue until further notice

Nebraska:

: All in-person classes encouraged to prepare for online instruction

Minnesota:

: Beginning March 18, 2020, until at least April 1, 2020, all coursework on all five University of Minnesota campuses will be delivered online.

Missouri:

: In-person classes will be suspended beginning at 5 p.m., March 11 through Sunday, March 15. During the week of March 16 – 20, classes will be held remotely. Following spring break, we plan to resume in-person classes on Monday, March 30.
