LimeBikes are leaving the Rockford area

The Rockford area says goodbye to LimeBikes.

City leaders say LimeBike services will be discontinued in the area. According to a city administrator, the company is leaving "as a result of their corporate model to go away from pedal bikes.”

Lime has also

​ its services in several other U.S. states, including California and Michigan.

LimeBikes debuted in Rockford less than one year ago in April 2018. More than 500 were introduced to the cities of Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park and Belvidere, in addition to the Rockford Park District.

The city of Rockford has already reached out to other bike-sharing companies for potential replacements for the service. Leaders tell 23 News the city is leaning toward a scooter model, but other options will be considered.
