DIXON, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy is being recognized by the Lee County Board for saving a one-year-old baby.

On September 28, a mother was driving on Warp Road with her baby in the car just before 5 p.m. She pulled onto Franklin Grove Road and was hit by a semi driving east, pushing her into the westbound lane.

Her vehicle was hit again by a pickup truck going west.

Deputy Jason Heller found the baby, who was unresponsive and bleeding from the mouth.

Heller performed live-saving techniques, including keeping the baby’s airway open until backup could get there.

Other officers helped the mother on the scene.
