CHANNAHON, Ill (WIFR) -- Congressman Adam Kinzinger is one step closer as he seeks reelection to serve Illinois' 16th congressional district in 2020.
Kinzinger's office collected more than 4,000 signatures on nominating petitions, which is more than three times the signatures needed to file.
Kinzinger officially filed with the State Board of Elections this morning and released the following statement:
"I’m proud to serve the hardest working people in America, and am inspired by their resilience. While serving in the minority has not always been easy, I’m encouraged by the people of IL-16 who share my belief that we live in the greatest country on Earth and that our future is bright. I’m humbled by the strong support I’ve received in my bid for reelection, and motivated to continue fighting for the 16th District."
Kinzinger won election to represent Illinois' 11th district in 2010. After redistricting, he has been re-elected to Illinois' 16th district every two years since 2012.
