ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ----- It was a day on the tracks as trains took over Rockford Police Department's District 1 headquarters for fun on the old railroad.

Partnering with the Rock River Valley Division of the National Model Railroad Association, the event gives kids the chance to play and learn more about model trains, historical Rockford train memorabilia, and even build their own caboose!

Organizers say it's always a thrill to see people enjoy what they love so much.

"The 3-year-olds are mesmerized by the moving trains and the lights and all that stuff, they really enjoy that. The older kids like the trains and to work with them," said James Devoe.
