CHERRY VALLEY, Ill. (WIFR) -- A local library is loaning out more than just books, as a new program launches to get area kids off the couch and outside.

Starting Thursday, card holders at Cherry Valley Public Library can check out fishing poles and tackle boxes for up to a week.

Boy Scout Troop 181 came up with the idea and donated the equipment to local agencies.

The library says the addition of the 14 poles and 12 tackle boxes will help bring new kids to the library and give them some new experiences.

"We are always on the lookout for new and innovative ideas to bring new users into the library so you never know what's coming up next," says Cherry Valley Public Library Director Jane Lenser.

Kids 14 and up in good standing at the library can check out the fishing equipment.
