ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Renovations are in the final stages for the Winnebago County Animal Services.
The shelter has been working on improving the larger kennel area for its dogs to give them even more space to sleep, eat and move around. The new and improved kennels will also improve safety and efficiency for animals, staff and volunteers.
WCAS administrator Brett Frazier says the construction will be completed by the end of the week.
"There were about 60 kennels in that room, there will still be 60 individual kennels, but now they'll be connected with transfer doors," said Frazier. "The dogs can go back and forth to one side and we can shut them into one side to make cleaning and caring for them a lot easier."
Frazier also says summer is the busiest time for them, so construction is over for the season. A new project will soon be in the works to help care for the shelters cats.
