11-year-old girl shot in 'gang-motivated' incident

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) Police say the home where a juvenile girl was shot overnight was believed to be targeted by a gang.

Around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, police officers responded to the area of 1900 Hancock Street for several calls of shots fired.

Officers found two occupied homes struck several times by gunfire.

A juvenile was located within one of the houses with a single gunshot wound to the chest. She was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses described a silver minivan fleeing the area south bound.

Police say the victim was not the intended target, but the home was.
