Judge lowers bond for Jones-Story crash, accused driver posts bail

STEPHENSON COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- A judge lowers the bond for the accused driver in a crash that took the life of Illinois State Police Trooper Brooke Jones-Story.

The bond for Craig W. Dittmar, 55, was lowered from $250,000 to $100,000 (10 percent). The Stephenson County Sheriff's Office tells 23 News that Dittmar posted bail on Friday.

Dittmar was arrested​ Thursday on charges of reckless homicide and one count of operating a commercial vehicle while fatigued - causing death.

The fatal crash happened March 28, 2019 on U.S. 20 near Freeport. Jones-Story was inspecting another semi-trailer before she was struck and killed.

According to court records, the next court appearance is set for May 3, 2019.
