WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- Attorney John T. Gibbons was selected as the next associate judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit.

Gibbons steps into a vacant role last held by John S. Lowry, who was elected to replace retiring circuit judge Edward Prochaska.

Gibbons had been working as an assistant state’s attorney in the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office as the Chief of the Criminal Division.

“I am truly humbled by this appointment,” said Gibbons. “As a lifelong resident of Winnebago County, I view our region as a place of truly vibrant people and places, remarkable ideas, and limitless potential. To serve this great community as an associate judge is an honor beyond words."

Gibbons will take oath on Feb. 22.
