JANESVILLE, Wis. (WIFR) -- A Janesville man was arrested after admitting to officers that he fired shots in celebration of New Year's Day.
Zerrick Hammett, 29, was charged with endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Police responded to reports of gun shots in the area of W. Holmes St. and S. Franklin St. around 3 a.m. A nearby resident witnessed someone shooting a hand gun from a balcony.
SWAT teams from Janesville and Beloit police departments got involved and detained three people. One of them, Hammett, reportedly confessed to shooting the gun in celebration of the new year.
Hammett was taken to the Rock County Jail.
