ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Students from Jackson Charter School capped off Black History Month by recognizing influential leaders.
Students and teachers created presentations highlighting important moments in black history. Each class had the chance to learn about a historic figure in-depth for the entire month of February.
Teachers say the projects gave students the chance to learn about important facets of history and inspire others.
"Being that our school is mostly African-American, we want them to know about their history," said Lakennya Gordon, instructional coach at Jackson Charter School. "A lot of them are unaware that so many inventions and big movements came from African-Americans, so we want them to get to know history."
