Inmate attacks Winnebago County corrections officer

A corrections officer was attacked Friday night by an inmate at the Winnebago County Jail.

Dion Dixon, 33, is accused of beating the officer around 10 p.m.

Investigators say the officer was hit in the face and treated at a hospital for facial injuries. It's unknown why the officer was attacked.

Dixon was charged with aggravated battery to a corrections officer. He was in custody for an armed robbery.

Dixon is due in court at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
