DENVER (WIFR) -- Several young Illinois children were treated to a big surprise from a Major League Baseball team, but it may not be one locals would expect.
The Colorado Rockies received Flat Stanley from a third grade class in Illinois. The team wanted to recognize the gesture from young students, sharing photos of his adventures in the 'Mile High City' across social media.
Flat Stanley is based on a 1964 children's book. The character became part of an educational project around 30 years later to help elementary students promote interest in learning about different people and places.
The Rockies have not specified which Illinois school sent Flat Stanley.

For no reason other than taking care of the kiddos and being middle-of-the-baseball-offseason-bored, we showed Illinois Stan the time of his life, and thought we’d share his adventures.
