SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WIFR) --- If you can't stop thinking about the 2020 elections, you're not alone. Illinois ranks high on a list of the country's top politically engaged states.
According to SmartAsset.com, the percentage of Americans giving money to a political candidate doubled from 6 to 12 percent between 1992 and 2016.
That means more Americans allocate parts of their paychecks or use some of their savings to back a candidate they believe in.
SmartAsset's study finds Maine to be the most politically engaged state followed by Montana. Wisconsin comes in third with a 62-percent voter turnout in 2018 and 70-percent voter registration. Illinois lands at 17, with a 47-percent voter turnout in 2018 and a 62-percent voter registration.
