SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WIFR) -- An Illinois lawmaker introduced a bill on January 25 that would legalize recreational marijuana in the state.
The bill would allow licensed businesses to grow and sell marijuana while giving Illinois residents over 21 the opportunity to grow up to 24 cannabis plants at their homes.
The bill would also create a 10 percent sales tax on marijuana when its moved to a retail store.
The measure is unlikely to pass while lawmakers are expected to act on a more restrictive proposal in the works, according to the Chicago Tribune. Opponents believe some actions may be needed to combat driving while high if marijuana is legalized.
