Illinois State Police Investigate Shooting on Interstate 57

CHICAGO (WIFR) --- Illinois State Police (ISP) officials are investigating a shooting, which occurred on I-57 southbound, north of 111th Street, at approximately 1:04 a.m., on Saturday, March 16, 2019.

ISP officers responded to a gas station located near the 111th Street exit of Interstate 57, after receiving information from the Chicago Police Department advising they were responding to reports of a victim who stated he had been shot on Interstate 57. Upon arrival, ISP officers learned the male driver of the victim vehicle (19 year old from Urbana, IL), sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local area hospital in stable condition. The sole male passenger of the victim vehicle (19 year old from Georgia), did not sustain any injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate the shots were fired from an unknown vehicle near 111th Street on I-57. The events surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. The southbound lanes of traffic on I-57 at 111th Street were temporarily shut down for the investigation; all lanes reopened at approximately 3:50 a.m. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any knowledge of the shooting is asked to contact the ISP at 847-294-4400.
