ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- He may have hung up his pizza apron, but Brian Weavel isn't done serving the stateline just yet.

The former owner of Anna's Pizza of Winnebago is now a parent and community liaison at Lincoln Middle School. On Friday, he was surprised by a visit from Illinois Lieutenant Gov. Juliana Stratton.

Stratton says she tried to make it out to Anna's Pizza before it closed, but didnt get the chance. Instead she decided to pay a visit to Weavel to thank him for his work in bringing the Winnebago and Rockford communities together.

"He's here at the school doing some great work working and connecting the school to the community," says Stratton. "I just wanted to let him know how much I appreciate him."

Weavel says it was an amazing experience.

"Here's our lieutenant governor, who's taking notice of Lincoln Middle School and reaching to us for support to say, 'Hey, keep on rocking.'"
