SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WIFR) - Last year, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office received more than 24,000 consumer complaints about everything from identity theft and debt to scams and home improvement. This year, her office categorized the ten it saw most often.

Since taking office in 2003, Madigan's office has fielded nearly 400,000 formal complaints from consumers across the state. Identity theft was the top complaint thanks in part to the data breach sustained by Equifax, one of the largest credit reporting agencies in the country.

Among the top ten consumer complaints are education, including student loans and for-profit schools, telecommunications such as telemarketing, satellite and cable tv providers and consumer debt agencies.
