ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The Rockford IceHogs surprised several children Monday afternoon just in time for the holiday season.
IceHogs players visited Mercyhealth and SwedishAmerican Hospitals on Monday, giving out stuffed animals collected during the team's Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday.
The IceHogs collected 4,300 stuffed animals for children in hospitals and charities helping with research of pediatric cancer.
"We have a responsibility as athletes to make a greater impact, so we're trying to get out and by involved as much as we can," says IceHogs defenseman Ian McCoshen. "It's a great opportunity to take the time and be really fortunate for what we have. Seeing these little kids in the hospital isn't great but we're just trying to make their days a little better."
